Excelsior has strengthened its squad with Mario Domínguez. The 22-year-old striker will be on loan from Valencia CF Mestalla for one season. The agreement includes an option to buy. The forward joins the team immediately. Domínguez went through Valencia CF's youth academy from the age of 14 and became the club's all-time top scorer at Valencia Mestalla. Last season, he scored 19 goals, including a streak of 10 goals in 8 consecutive matches. In 2022, he made his LaLiga debut at 18. The Spanish striker is looking forward to his first season in Rotterdam, as he told Excelsior's website: “The coach gave me confidence. I noticed how much he wanted me here, that gave me the final push. The VriendenLoterij Eredivisie is an attractive competition, especially for strikers. I think I can adapt quickly here. For me, this is the perfect step.” Domínguez remains modest about his playing style. “Many goals and hard work for the team. That's what people can expect from me.” Technical director Mark Ruijl is satisfied with the arrival of the forward on Excelsior's digital home. “With Mario, we're bringing in a player we've been following for a long time. He was our top candidate for the striker position. We expect him to play an important role in our selection.”
