Excelsior have triggered the contract option for Noah Naujoks. The 24-year-old midfielder will now remain at the Rotterdam club until the summer of 2028.

Technical director Mark Ruijl confirmed the move. "Yes, that has happened. We will not neglect to trigger the options we consider important," he said. Naujoks, who joined from Feyenoord in the winter of 2023, had a contract until mid-2027 with an option for an additional season.

The player has been aware of the extension for some time. "That has been the case for a while and Noah knows it too." Ruijl stated. Naujoks scored twice in the season opener against SC Cambuur but has been injured since. He has now returned to training.

The action shows the club's faith in the player despite his injury. Excelsior currently sit seventh in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie with 11 points from seven matches.

Ruijl is also handling the expiring contracts of goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel and defender Casper Widell. No new agreements have been finalised for those players yet. The club now looks forward to Naujoks' return, where he could play a key role in the remainder of the campaign. The full standings show Excelsior are just one point above eighth place, which is held by their next opponents Groningen.
